VJ Day 80th Anniversary Events

2025 marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War. On 15 August 1945, following the surrender of Japan, Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) was declared. Peace was finally restored after six years of global conflict. In 2025, we are hosting a series of commemorative events to honour the sacrifice of those who served and ensure that the lessons of the past are not forgotten.

Memorial Service

ℹī¸ Details: We begin our commemorations with a respectful service at the Totton War Memorial, all are welcome to attend.

Readings for Reflection

🕰ī¸ Times: 19:15 to 20:15

ℹī¸ Details: Join us for an outdoor performance of a collection of poetry and prose looking at different perspectives of the Second World War and events around VJ Day. Please bring your own seating.

Lamps of Peace Parade

Afternoon Tea

🕰ī¸ Times: 13:30 to 16:00

ℹī¸ Details:  Enjoy a commemorative (free) Afternoon Tea featuring Wartime Music, VJ Documentary and Quiz with local residents and veterans.
