Marchwood Bypass Bus Priority Improvements

Hampshire County Council works will commence in October 2023, with a completion estimated for Summer 2024.

Knights Brown Construction Ltd has been appointed to carry out the main works for the bus priority improvements at Marchwood Bypass and on the approach to Rushington Roundabout. The schemes will also provide new bus stops/shelters, in addition to improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists travelling in the area. Please view the Scheme Presentation..

The work will be undertaken in phases with Phase 1 completing in January 2024. Phase 2 information below:

Construction Phase 2: January 2024 – June 2024

The second phase of construction will consist of:

  • A new bus lane on Marchwood Bypass approach to Rushington Roundabout and associated vegetation clearance;
  • Improved crossing point on Marchwood Bypass close to Rushington Roundabout and associated signal works;
  • Relocation and widening of existing shared use facilities between Parkside and Arnold Clark;
  • Road surfacing treatment between Rushington Roundabout and Jacobs Gutter Lane;
  • New bus gate on A326 and associated signals;
  • New crossing point between Bull Copse Road and Marchwood Bypass connecting to two new bus stops on Marchwood Bypass;
  • Widening existing pavement on Bull Copse Road.

Works will take place Monday to Friday, permitted working hours between 9:30am to 4pm for the duration of the scheme. Access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the works.

Redbridge Causeway Update: Essential Safety Repairs

Dear Residents,

We would like to inform you about upcoming essential safety repairs planned for the Redbridge Viaduct. These repairs are necessary to address recurring defects in the road surface, particularly at joints affected by heavy traffic volumes.

Schedule Overview: The repair work will commence in mid-August and will be conducted in two phases:

  • Weekend Closures (Westbound A35):
    • 8pm Saturday to 6am Monday on the following dates:
      • August 10-12
      • August 17-19
      • August 31 – September 2 (contingency)
      • September 7-9 (contingency)
  • Weekday Night Closures (Westbound A35):
    • 8pm to 6am on the following dates:
      • August 27-30 (Tuesday-Friday)
      • September 2-6 (Monday-Friday)
      • September 9-11 (Monday-Wednesday)

Closure Details: During closures, the westbound A35 from Rushington Roundabout to Redbridge Roundabout will be fully closed. Diversions will be clearly marked for both motorway and non-motorway users.

Pedestrian and Cyclist Diversions: For safety reasons, the south footway of the westbound A35 will also be closed. Pedestrians, cyclists, and non-motorised users will be diverted via the north footway.

Contingency and Updates: Please note that these dates are weather-dependent and subject to change at short notice. Additional information and updates will be available on our website and the County Council’s social media channels.
